Downtown Fond du Lac’s last big hurrah of the summer is Saturday, Sept. 6.
Part of Main Street will be closed off for Fondue Fest, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This annual festival includes music stages, food stands, a children’s area, shopping, business booths and, of course, chocolate and cheese fondue.
Admission is free. Food and beverage prices vary.
There will also be a book signing with at least 15 Wisconsin authors at Book World. Other businesses will open their doors and have outdoor displays.
Outside Thelma Sadoff Center of the Arts, Copper Box will close out the festival at 5 p.m. The band specializes in Americana roots and Southern soul. THELMA, located at Sheboygan and Marr streets, will also offer a cash bar and food.
And it wouldn’t be called “Fondue Fest” without fondue. Every year between 70 and 90 pounds of cheese are donated for cheese fondue, according to the Fondue Fest website, fonduefest.com. Artisan bread has also been provided for dipping, along with cookies for the chocolate. Fondue is prepared and served by Moraine Park Technical College Culinary Arts students.
Bands will provide free live music throughout the day. Vinyl Groove, a rock band that plays 60s through 80s music, will play from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the North Music Stage. From 2 to 5 p.m., roots-reggae group Unity the Band will entertain from 2 to 5 p.m.
As always, the Kids’ Zone will be back for another year. Located on Sheboygan Street, this area provides children’s entertainment, games, activities and photo opportunities.
At least 15 authors from across Wisconsin will visit Book World during Fondue Fest in Fond du Lac on Saturday, September 6.
